What is Cue ?

Cue can be defined as something that reminds you or motivates you to do something.For the most part,A cue is the object or information regarding the addictive habit.

For example,if you are a smoker, talking about smoking,getting angry or some thoughts that lead you to smoking are the cues to smoking.(I'm sorry if you happened to be a smoker and reading this reminded you of it.but,read it fully as you might discover a phenomenon to use cues to your advantage).

For every action,there is a cue which initiates the process.This is why for most people feel a lot of time in their hands when they quit social media as every notification is a cue to get into the app and get consumed in for long timelessly.

Why Cues are powerful? 

Cues are powerful as they reduce the need to use your will power drastically.

The reason why every rehab professional would recommend staying away from anything reminding of your addiction is because,once you eliminate the need to use will power overcoming an addiction,the speed of recovery is drastically more than compared to overcoming addiction with all the cues in place.

A cluttered place isn't ideal for productivity as it will put you into a situation where there will be a lot of cues that distract you from your work,making you work for longer hours,but get very less work done.So go clean your room or workplace if you haven't yet.

Using Cues to your Advantage.

Now that you know what cue is and what it feels like,it's time to leverage upon it.You can come up with your own customized creative cue setting as that will have a lot more motivation for you to follow them but do look at the cues I suggest to gather some inspiration.

First,clean your room / computer screen from all the unnecessary stuff so that you can make the most out of the cues you've set. The lesser the number of cues,the more likely you are to take action.

1)If you can't make working out in the morning as a habit,Place your workout shoes near your bed.

2)When you want to continue your work from where you left off,leave it as it is.(for example,if you are writing a book,make sure the first thing you see on the table is the book with the pen and paper from where you stopped writing previously)

3)If you want to develop a bed time book reading routine,keep your book next to the pillow.
