Do you feel inefficient in spite of managing your time?Like,Scheduling the tasks for calculated number of hours even with tolerances still seem like you have underestimated the time you've allocated? This happens to the vast majority of anyone who are completely new to time management and that is okay.
In this article we'll see what does attention management mean,How it is different from time management and some easy tips on how to get started practicing attention management which will help increase productivity exponentially.
The Basic rule of thumb.
We all have the same 24 hours everyday. No matter how we use it or not use it,it passes. We can't control the flow, but what we can control and optimize,is the way we spend it.
What is Attention Management?
Attention Management can be defined as an effective way of prioritizing where the attention goes for the selected allocated time for the task, where everything else is treated like a distraction.(I kinda came up with this definition after practicing it so I don't mind about a google search giving a more robust definition of it)
The idea here is simple. For the given amount of time for a particular task, one must make sure he/she does only that and nothing else even though it is important in some other form.It is very different from time management.
Time management vs Attention Management.
Time management can be defined as the way you schedule your day for the tasks you have.It is essential but it just gets over there.
Many people mean attention management when they say time management.Especially in scenarios where you aren't comfortable to work despite being given time to complete the work.
I'd say,for a productive session to happen, one must time manage initially and then focus on attention management to utilize it correctly. I have an interesting article on attention management and movie experience which you can read by clicking here.
Get started with Attention Management.
It is very easy to get started with it.First,Identify the objects that provide distraction apart from your mobile phone & desktop notifications(the two are must to avoid).
Once you've avoided them, you'll find yourself doing a lot of efficient work.Sounds too good to be true?
The Psychology of it.
The human brain, like any other machine is very efficient when it focuses on a single task. Every time you see something other than the one you are meant to look, you start generating thoughts and memories about it which leads to interruption in the focus you have for the task thereby leading to slower completion.
