How to use Social Media to stay Productive.

Yep, you read that right. This cannot be possible at all is NOT what I want to convey here.it is. And I've tried using that and was being productive.

Without me knowing that. So as i was searching for podcasts to listen on Spotify, i came across this one called the Productivityist Podcast and the name got my attention. Being new into the podcasting experience, I wanted to listen to something that takes less time to finish. So i saw this one titled Social media and Productivity was around 19 minutes and i decided to give it a try. So this is what I took away with that and felt i need to share it with you.

So Social media and productivity sounds like an oxymoron. If you don't know what an oxymoron is, it is two words which convey opposite meanings of each other. So how is it possible to attain productivity through something that kills productivity! Is what i thought to myself as soon as i came across this.

This is because we need human interaction as humans. The way we use social media is to immerse ourselves into content and share it. But the point is, most of them don't spark any conversation between people. You might have noticed you feeling a lot good for the next hour after you posted a new picture on Instagram. Why? Because people interact there. They like, they comment, you reply.

Let's talk about the psychology of it

Abraham Harold Maslow, the famous American psychologist talks about the basic needs of a man in his work Maslow's hierarchy of needs. If you don't know what it means, it is just the order of importance of needs a human being has.

It starts from Physiological needs all the way up to the needs of self-actualization. Somewhere in between this there is a need for every human being to feel the need of love and belonging. If social media is used wisely, it can do that.

Okay How to do that?

  • You can upload something you are good at like singing or dancing or any skill you possess.
  • If you don't feel like doing that, you can leave a valuable comment on some one who shares the same interest as you do.
  • You can check on an old friend whom you've not spoken for a while.
  • You can use the question feature on Instagram by asking an interesting question.

Now the best part of social media based conversations is that you can reply whenever you want to or whenever you have the time to. So this saves a lot of time.

Stay safe and wash hands regularly.
